For Wise People Who Want To Learn The Quickest Way To Lose Weight

How to spot weight loss lies and diet scams

Diet Scam or not?One of the most annoying if not disgusting pitfalls in losing weight is dealing with the IMMENSE amount of weight loss or diet scams out there!

It’s a sad fact of life that some people want to “sell you the dream.”

You know what dream I’m talking about, right? The ones that says:

  • Lose 20 pounds in 5 days without any exercise! (you could always remove an arm or a leg or two…)
  • Take one pill and watch the weight melt off! (think about it – if diet pills actually worked, there’s be no fat people around).
  • Use this ab device for 7 minutes a day and get toned and sexy! (did you know you already have sexy abs? They’re just covered by fat).
  • Twist your way to fitness! (to lose one pound of fat, you generally must burn 3,500 calories. How much effort do you think twisting really involves?).

Thus, right from the very get-go, you need to internalize that scams abound, and they are soooo attractive because they’re selling you the dream (super weight loss with virtually zero effort on your part).

So. How can you tell if something is a diet scam or weight loss lie?

Glad you asked! Follow these important steps.

  • If it sounds too good….
    • It generally is. Honestly, it really is!! Think about it - if something really really worked as claimed, wouldn’t that product be on Oprah yesterday? For example, take colonics - the lovely scam of “flushing out your lower colon of all the toxins blah blah blah.” Consider, of course you’ll lose weight if you plop everything out! You’ll put that weight right back on, however, after your next meal.
    • Remember - you will lose weight ONLY when you eat smart (ie, not graze all day, nor consume 3000 calories each day, nor give into emotional eating all the time, etc.). Exercise will only help this progress.
  • If there’s the tagline, results not typical…
    • Did you know the one sure-fire way to become a millionaire? Buy a ticket to the lottery! ‘Course, results are not typical (as there’s generally only one lottery winner).
    • Diet/weight loss products that have this tagline might NOT be a scam, mind you - for example, a workout DVD like TurboJam or Taebo requires that you do the exercise often and eat well at the same time. Many people don’t do that (and btw, Turbo Jam and Taebo are definitely magnificent workout DVDs, we recommend them highly!). But if you see something that looks extremely questionable, your scam-o-meter should start flailing about.
  • If there’s the warning, “combined with exercise and diet”…
    • Any product that includes, results were achieved by combining with exercise and diet, is kinda sorta saying, you could be vegging out on the couch but combine that with exercise and diet and whoooohooo! Results will ALWAYS be achieved with exercise and diet - that’s how people lose weight! Hello! :)

Now, after putting the product/diet/thingee in question thru the above filter, you might still find yourself intrigued enough to buy buy buy it.

WAIT! Before you do so, you should research what other people think of the product first. Here are some useful sites:

Next, you can almost always find customer reviews at Amazon.com. For example, here are:

Keep in mind a few things. Not all reviews are legit….so you want to make certain you query at an authority site (one that has many resources/users/postings/etc.). And…what works for one person might leave another high and dry!

And don’t forget more eye-opening resources:

Remember, NEVER LET YOUR EMOTIONS RUN AWAY WITH YOU. Always take the time to read and learn, read and learn more, and THEN make a decision. Your pocketbook will thank you.

Enjoy,
