….”The Cardiologist’s Wife’s Chocolate Too! Diet” combines Robert Schneider’s medical advice with research and recipes by Joyce Schneider, a former journalist and amateur cook.
The diet is based on a 21-day suggested meal plan of about 1,000 calories a day that includes “hybrid” versions of meals such as rigatoni with chicken and broccoli, linguini with clams and new interpretations of treats such as brownies, blondies, smoothies and hot fudge sundaes. Unsweetened dark chocolate _ which research suggests has a host of antioxidant properties _ is the “engine” of the diet, the couple explains.
“We love chocolate because it tastes good and can be good for you,” says Robert, a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology, and an attorney, who is retired from the staff of Norwalk Hospital. “But we were very concerned about two things we saw happening as the benefits of chocolate began to get a lot of attention.”…. One of the main things that concerns us is the level of daily calorie consumption - the diet is based on a 21-day suggested meal plan of about 1,000 calories. That’s generally below your typical base metabolism rate. And because it’s 21 days, it gives the idea that one can eat this particular way for 3 weeks…and then revert back to their usual over-eating tendencies.
